Monogram's long-awaited PBY Catalina has one glaring mistake: the rudder and vertical fin are way too wide. Many modelers, unaware of this, have made very nice models from this kit, but many others have complained of the inaccuracy. Mike Belcher has come forward to solve this with a correction kit for the PBY-5 and PBY-5A kits that provide a new, proper-size vertical fin and rudder, with the MAD boom used on late Catalinas. For the modeler who would like to make his or her Catalina stand out from the crowd, there is the conversion kit for the PBY-6A, which provides the tall fin and rudder, and different elevators of larger area than the PBY-5. Each kit contains a detailed instruction sheet, and the casting quality of the resin parts is first rate.
