The latest title in the Warpaint Series from Alan W. Hall covers one of the lesser known British bombers during WW2, the Short Stirling. While not as flashy and popular as the Halifax and Lancaster, the Stirling did perform admirably in its role, and when it became outdated for its initial design, it was quickly put to work doing other tasks such as towing gliders and hauling paratroopers.

Alan W. Hall takes us on a trip alongside the history of this interesting plane, from its beginnings with a 1/2 sized flying mockup to the final Mk. V cargo version. David Howley puts in some nice illustrations, and the quality and quantity of photographs help round out this book. There is also a great set of pull out 1/72 drawings covering all of the variants from the Mk. I to the Mk. V.

Overall this has got to be one of the best references out there on the Stirling, both in writing and in pictures. If you have an interest in British WW2 aircraft and are sick of seeing Lancasters and Halifaxes, pick this book up and enjoy reading about the third British long-range bomber.
