PART photoetch #72-085
Sopwith 1 1/2 Strutter for the Toko kit

Reviewed by Matt Bittner

The excellent new photoetch set done by PART is extremely well done. The set contains approximately 118 parts, many of those are used to be built on top of each other to give more of a three dimensional effect. Items that are included are the entire cockpit sides, floor and top, which isa fold-up affair; two "wicker" seats; other "small" cockpit parts; Scarff ring; bomb fins; rigging tie-downs (!); and other small details. PART also includes clear "film" that supplies the instruments for the instrument panel, the clear windscreen attached to the Vickers gun; and two clear windscreens which were found on the trainer. It appears the PART set is to be used primarily with the double seaters. However, this set can easily be used with the single seaters as well. You will just be left with a lot of leftovers. Unfortunately, PART still refuses to supply seat belts with their WW1 sets. You will need to find these from another source, like the Tom's Modelworks British photoetch set.

ROSEMONT HOBBY SHOP has come through with more resin upgrades for the WW1 modeler in both 1/48 and 1/72 scales. These are very finely-casted parts with fine detail and no air bubbles. Available in their ROSEPARTS details and ROSEPLANE conversion lines are the following . . . all of which are highly recommended.

ROSEPLANES 1/72 Fokker D.VII cowl conversions
$6.95 USD ea.

#601 Early Fokker-built D.VII
#602 Late Fokker-built D.VII F
#603 Albatros built D.VII (ALB)
#604 Albatros-Werke built D.VII(OAW)

All are well casted and come with the two Spandau machine guns; propellor; exhaust; seat and spinner (when required). These are designed to be used on the ubiquitous 1/72 Revell Fokker D.VII, however I have the ESCI copy and will be using that kit for my build review. Look for all four conversions in a future issue of Internet Modeler.
