New Aviation Editor Chris Bucholtz reporting for duty! I'm pleased to present this month's selection of stories focusing on a particular favorite of mine, the Mosquito.

Oddly, I've never built a Mossie, but not for want of trying. I attempted to build a Mosquito FB.XVIII a few years ago, but, as every modeler experiences at one point, this model turned out to be my cursed kit. Try as I might, I couldn't make this otherwise decent Airfix 1:72 kit turn into a finished model. The Mossie had an odd habit of breaking by itself--I'd work on it for an evening and return the next day, to find the model undisturbed but for a part that had inexplicably fallen off! After two months of taking a step forward and having the model immediately take a step back while I wasn't watching, I shelved it and moved onto something a little less insubordinate!

Last year my local chapter held a contest called "The Fight of the Old Dog," the premise of which was that each member would bring in a kit that had defied the modelers' most desperate efforts. Out came my Mossie. As I stood explaining its evil ways to my fellow members, the left wing neatly separated, plunged to the table and missed my newly-completed Skyraider by inches!
