1/35 Scale Resin Detail Sets

CMK 3004
M939 Series Engine Set
For the Italeri kit

There's nothing like popping the hood on a car and checking out the engine, and this is true even for military trucks. Unfortunately it is difficult at best to get the whole engine area detailed just right. Luckily we have some excellent aftermarket companies filling this void. This latest from CMK takes care of the M939 series truck engine and hood.

The set has two main pieces, namely the hood and the engine & bay. Additional details such as various piping and such are provided separately. With the engine being molded as one piece in the bay, painting it will be a challenge for even the best of us. The hood is nicely detailed on the outside, but the inside is what is really neat, as there is soundproofing fabric molded into the underside of the hood. It's a small touch, but a nice one nonetheless.

While it would have been nice to have the engine and components separated from the engine bay, this set is still an excellent option to spruce up the Italeri kit.

CMK 3008
VW Beetle typ 92 SS Interior Set
For the CMK kit

It was only a matter of time before CMK came out with detail sets for their already excellent VW Beetle kit. This set takes care of the interior of the kit. While there isn't much in the kit, the detail is captured in a manner that only resin can do. Two doors are provided, as well as three seats, a gas can, door handles and window cranks, a sun visor, and the roof canvas, rolled up.

In looking at the resin pieces, the detail is superb, with small things such as "1943" stamped on the gas can, or the buttons pulling the fabric down on the seats. This attention to the small things really will help set a kit using this set apart from the rest.

Rounding out the set is a fret of nickel-plated etched brass, with such neat additions as the door jams, instrument cluster, and gun clips. All in all, this is one superb set that greatly improves the look of the CMK kit.

CMK 3009
VW Beetle Engine Set
For the CMK kit

As if the interior set wasn't enough for you, CMK has put out this set, covering the engine. Using a mixture of resin and nickel-plated etched brass, the entire engine bay is replicated, from the back of the rear seat to the trunk lid, everything is replicated faithfully. The engine is molded in three pieces, with the transmission as a separate piece. There is a lot of detail molded into the engine, although it looks like the belts will have to be provided separately.

The brass fret is simple and provides some of the engine bay and hood details such as the latch and the hinges.

This set, combined with the interior set, will just about make a complete VW from the CMK kit. With the excellent quality of the CMK kit out of the box, I can bet that we'll see lots of these finished up with some, all or none of these sets, and they will all look neat.
