1/48 & 1/32 Scale Resin Detail Sets CMK 4026 BAC Lightning Control Surfaces For the Airfix kit Control surfaces are often a very weak part of a model kit, as the wings are generally two-piece, resulting in a somewhat thick trailing edge. By casting these in resin as one piece, this problem is alleviated, as well as making it possible to display flaps and ailerons in alternate positions. This set by CMK provides just such a solution for the Airfix 1/48 BAC Lightning kits. The air brakes are also provided, along with the fuselage wells and actuating cylinders. This small set, while having few parts, will make it much easier to display the air brakes open and the control surfaces slightly offset. CMK 4029 German Luftwaffe Rudder Pedals & Control Sticks For any kit CMK has put out quite a few 1/48 resin WW2 Luftwaffe sets, but there will always be that one kit that doesn't have a detail set. This set will help those by providing a generic set of control sticks and rudder pedals that were standard in many different types of planes. This set will allow you to add a bit of detail to a number of kits without having to buy a whole detail set. Several different styles of control sticks are provided, including bomber and fighter designs. CMK 4030 Oberusel 9V-110hp German rotary engine of WW1 The Fokker Dr.I is perhaps the most recognized aircraft of WW1, and in recent years there have been various kits of it released to replace the venerable Aurora Dr.I (actually closer to 1/40 scale). Although most German aircraft of WW1 used inline engines, those produced by Fokker were, in most cases, powered by the Oberusel rotary. CMK has now released an Oberusel 110hp as fitted to various Fokkers for who wish to even further improve the DML or BM Dr.I or the Eduard D.VI and E.V/D.VIII kits. The set consists of a central hub that the individual cylinders are attached to. Separate exhausts are supplied, however pushrods will need to be made from HSP or perhaps high 'E' guitar strings. My sample is well cast with just three very tiny bubbles in the hub. Instructions consist of an exploded diagram showing the cylinders and hub, as well as a cylinder on its own with pushrod and exhaust location. One mistake in the instructions is they show ten cylinders fitted - although ten are included, only nine are actually used. CMK 4031 Fokker Rotary Engine Set For Eduard/Dragon kits This set is as above with the inclusion of a cowl and firewall which CMK says is for the Eduard/Dragon kits, but just which ones are the question. I hauled out my DML Dr.I and Eduard D.VI and E.V and would have to say it appears to be a match for the DML Dr.I. Also included is an etched brass propellor boss and a strap that would hold the cowl to the fuselage. The only down side I can see is the flow gate on the cowl is right at the top of the piece and will take some careful sanding to not harm the cowl. Cobra Company CC48016 UH-1N US Marine Huey Update & Detail Set For the Italeri kit This set updates the Italeri 1/48 UN-1N Huey with: updated instrument panel, center & overhead consoles, armored seats, rotor brake, interior framework, FLIR turret, IR jammer, laser detector pods, missile detection sensors, & GPS antenna. The resin castings are nicely detailed with no pinhole flaws from the resin casting. This will get you the latest in USMC Huey configurations! The Modeler's Weapons Shop WS-29 (1/48) and WS-31 (1/32) P-38 Wheels These two sets are similar, with the only real difference being the scale. These are generic wheels so they will work with any P-38 in that scale. The main wheels are slightly bulged, while the nose wheel isn't, which properly depicts the weight distribution of a P-38 on the ground. The castings are designed to be simple to use in that there is a saw groove molded into the base where you can run your razor saw to make sure that you get a nice even cut. This is a nice feature and will reduce the amount of work in using these wheels. The 1/32 wheels suffered from some large bubbles and some pinhole bubbles, but I am told that was because of excessive heat on the day of the pouring, and the review sample I received was definitely not the norm. These sets will make for a very nice replacement wheel set for a P-38, and will go a long way to giving it that correct stance and look. | |
