Four more of the excellent Polish naval publication 'Profile Morskie'
have come my way. This time featuring Japanese and French cruisers. In
order of publication they are: Chokai, Tone, Maya and the French La Galissonniere
Class. The Chokai and Maya comprise parts one and two of the Takao Class,
while Tone is devoted to Tone herself. The French volume is devoted to
the six ships of the Marseillaise and Georges Leygues sub-classes, also
known as the La Galssonniere Class.
As
is usual with this series all text is in Polish PLEASE find an
English publisher !!!!! However it is not for the text that I keep acquiring
these volumes, rather it is for the illustrations they include in each
issue. The centre of each includes 1/400 and 1/700 scale plans of the
named ship, as well as detail drawings of the various bits and pieces
that make up the superstructure, weapons, boats, aircraft, etc.
Photos usually number around 20 or so and are on average pretty murky,
but they do provide additional details for those building models of the
particular ship.
The
covers of all except Chokai feature colour illustrations showing the ship(s)
at various times in their careers - that of the French volume is particularly
well done and shows: Georges Leygues, Gloire (twice), Montcalm and Marseillaise.
All-in-all these are excellent value for the money and provide a handy
reference for modellers and artists alike. Highly recommended.
Once again, I acquired these via Lubos Vinar of Vamp
Mail Order. they are not part of his normal stock, but he can special
order them on request.
