White Ensign Models' 1/700 Photoetch for the Type 42 Destroyer

by Bob Pearson

To go with the various incarnations of the Type 42 Destroyer released by Skywave (the original), DML/Dragon and Revell, WEM has this set to upgrade any of the aforementioned ships. In fact they provide enough parts on this fret to complete two Type 42s - one Batch 1/2, and one Batch 3.

Included are: Type 965Q, type 1022 and type 1006 Radars; mast yards; HF/DF aerials; Funnel aerial spreaders; Engine intake grills; 2-bar railings; anchor cable; vertical and inclined ladders; gemini inflatable derricks; Flight deck safety nets (Batch 1/2); flight deck safety nets (Batch 3); Scot platform railings; Bridge front brackets; Lynx helicopter rotors; Hangar roof floodlight gantry; foc's'le railings; 3 bar railings. Waffle pattern doors.

The instructions comprise two pages of drawings showing construction and location on the kit, as well as a drawing listing each of the parts and its location on the fret.

Conclusion

Highly recommended for anyone buildinga Type 42. Watch for Richard Eaton's build of the Dragon HMS Manchester using this set in an upcoming issue.

My thanks to Caroline Carter of White Ensign Models for the review sample
