Revell 1/24 NASCAR Kits:  #8 Dale Earnhardt, Jr's 2001 Monte Carlo, #29 Kevin Harvick's 2001 Monte Carlo, & #6 Mark Martin's Taurus

By Chris Banyai-Riepl

Overview

It used to be that NASCAR cars were easily differentiated from one another, and the race version at least resembled the stock vehicle it was supposed to be based on.  Nowadays, though, there's very little difference between the vehicles, and the cars are probably going to become even more similar.  On the plus side, this means that you'll be able to build all of the racecars in a season by just changing the decals.  This hasn't happened yet, so we'll just have to struggle with the three or four body types out there.

The Kits (Monte Carlo Above)

The two Monte Carlo releases have identical plastic parts, with the decals being the only difference.  Much of the interior pieces in all three kits appear to be the same, making the job of building these things a bit easier.  Each kit comes with a detailed engine, chassis and interior, and the decal sheets will keep you busy for quite a while applying all the sponsor decals.

Conclusion (Taurus Above)

When it comes to modern NASCAR kits, Revell has got to be leading the pack.  Their kits are well molded, with decent detailing, and their kit line has a good piece of the 2001 race lineup.  If you're into NASCAR you'll definitely want to grab these, if you haven't already.

Our thanks to Revell-Monogram for the review samples.
