Firing Line 1/76 Guy FBAX 3 Ton 6x4 General Service Lorry in Etched Brass and cast metal

By Bob Pearson

Introduction

According to the instructions this kit covers the general service version of the Guy FBAX 6x4 lorry. They were widely used in North Africa where the exposed cab was more appreciated than in Britain or the European theatre.

The Kit

As with the Beaverette, this kit is constructed almost entirely out of photo-etched brass, however there are also a considerable number of cast metal parts where PE isn't practical. The PE is relief etched and scored where bends are to be made. It is probably a wise idea to brush up on soldering for this, although CA may be adequate.

The metal parts consist of wheels, axle assemblies, fuel tank, leaf springs and are nicely cast with minimal cleanup required.

Instructions consist of two pages with a five view drawing (not to scale) and is broken down into three sections with a total of 13 main steps. There are three detailed drawings showing the main sections. There are also detailed textual directions describing exactly how to go about construction.

Conclusion

Probably a good stepping stone for those planning to tackle the corvette details sets as it has a good mix of PE and metal, as does the latter.

My sample was courtesy of DJ Parkins' North American agent, Denis Keegan. As well as the Firing Line range, he also handles the Great Little Ships (corvette details) and Flightline (aircraft accessories) ranges.
