Revell "Jungle Jim" Monza Funny Car

By Al Superczynski

Overview

"Jungle Jim" Liberman was considered one of the top professional funny car pilots in the country. When Jungle Jim and his crew chief Pam Hardy, affectionately known to fans as "Jungle Pam", took to the track you could feel the excitement start to build. Jungle Jim's flair for showmanship earned him the unofficial title "King of the Burnouts".

The Kit

This kit contains 101 parts in white and plated plastic along with the usual vinyl tires and clear windshield. It is very cleanly molded and similar in execution to the Schumacher dragster featured elsewhere in this issue - the main part of the chassis is molded in one piece for ease of construction but doesn't suffer as much from the flat-sided structure. The mass market Revell aims at probably dictates the number of plated parts included in the kit but most of these will need to be stripped and repainted with metalizers for complete accuracy.

A big improvement over the US Army dragster is the use of silkscreened decals that are compatible with setting solutions. The decal sheet looks really great, all the items on it are in good registration, and they appear to be as thin as good quality aftermarket decals.

The crowning touch for this model is pre-painted figures of Jim and Pam and they're very well done indeed considering the low price of the kit!

The Jungle Jim Monza would be a great addition to any funny car collection and with its colorful markings could be a nice change of pace for modelers that don't normally build cars.

Our thanks to Revell-Monogram for the review sample.
