Draw Decal's 1/144 Monarch New Colors 757-200s

By Chris Banyai-Riepl

Monarch has been flying the European skies for many years with a variety of aircraft, all carrying a rather sedate livery. Recently they have been repainting their fleet in a much more interesting scheme that consists of a flowing blue belly meeting up with a yellow back end. This striking scheme can be found on both the 757 and the A321 and it probably won't be too long before the rest of the fleet (A320s, A300s, and A330s) will be repainted similarly.

This sheet will have you doing a lot of painting, as there really is no effective way to do the blue and yellow fuselage colors. So dig out your masking tape and a pair of calipers and have at it. The instructions guide you to first paint the fuselage white, then paint on the yellow, and finally the blue. The calipers will be essential in making sure that each side matches up. The decals themselves provide all the necessary titles and logos for the fuselage and tail, as well as a complete set of windows and separate silver outlines. Door outlines are also included, as are full sets of registration codes allowing you to do any of the Monarch 757s. The decals are well printed via an ALPS although the more meticulous modelers out there might want to paint some scrap decal stock with the same yellow of the rear fuselage and replace the center part of the tail logo for a perfect match. If Boeing 757s aren't your cup of tea, Draw Decal also has this livery available for the A321.

My thanks to Draw Decal for the review sample. Check out their website for a rather large number of airliner decal sheets in a wide variety of scales.
