Revell's 1/24 Ferrari 360 Modena

The 360 Modena is a clean-sheet design which anticipates trends for future Ferrari road cars. These include lower weight combined with greater chassis rigidity - seemingly contrasting objectives that have been achieved by employing innovative construction technology. The 360 Modena is the first production Ferrari to be constructed entirely in aluminium. Chassis, bodyshell and suspension wishbones are all made from this light-weight material, allowing the engineers to provide the best overall performance and handling ever achieved in a mid-engined Ferrari, along withlevels of comfort unheard of before.

The Kit

The Revell kit has a total of 64 parts and is molded in red, black and clear, with one tree of satin-plated parts. Vinyl tires are included and there's a small decal sheet. A piece of mesh is also included for detailing.

The powerful V-8 engine is made from a small number of parts. Various engine parts are molded together and some of them are molded with the rear body parts. This is a little disappointing for an impressive part of the car. For the suspension there are not many details either.  Front suspension is made from three parts while there is no rear suspension. Disk brakes are very simple, too.

The front parts of the wheels are satin-plated while rest of wheels parts are molded in red and need to be painted. The tires look good and represent Pirelli P-Zero tires. The only problem is that they are too shiny.

The floor part is molded with the front wheel arches. On it goes separate side panels. Other details you will find include the shifter and hand brake while pedals are molded with dashboard. Seats have engraved Ferrari logo on it but there are no backs. The dashboard looks good with separate parts for steering column and wheel. Gauges are made with decals as is the Ferrari logo on steering wheel.

The body is made from 3 parts – body, rear and front bumpers. Mesh patterns are present for all vent openings on the body except on front bumper, which is molded with it. Headlamps are molded in clear plastic and must be painted. Side mirrors have satin-plated parts while the rear mirror must be painted. Clear parts are included forhead and rear light lenses, side and rear windows and the windshield. You will find two windshield wipers, too.

Ferrari and Modena scripts are made as decals as well as the horses for the wheels. There is also a decal for the third stop light and rear window pattern. License plates can be German or with ‘360 Modena’ name.

Conclusion

Revell’s kit arrived on market few months after Tamiya’s and it looks like that they rushed it to put another kit on market. I had both kits in my hands and Tamiya’s looks much better.
