Overview
The Camaro name has been around the automotive world for a while now and has often been synonymous with Chevrolet performance. This year marks the 35th anniversary of the Camaro and to celebrate this Chevrolet has come out with a special edition car. While the vehicle shares much of the standard Camaro design, a set of new wheels and bold striping help set it apart. Pretty looks aren’t the only thing this car has to offer, though. Just to make sure that people remember that Camaro equals performance, the people at Chevrolet have placed a 325-hp LS1 V8 engine under the hood, making this a hot ride.
The KitThis is a very complete kit of the 35th Anniversary Camaro, complete with an accurate LS1 engine. It comes molded in white, with rubber tires, a tree of clear parts and a tree of transparent red parts. All the parts are crisply molded and have excellent detailing throughout. A small decal sheet rounds out the kit, providing everything from license plates to the custom striping.Starting with the powertrain assembly, this is a very detailed setup and is almost a model on its own. The engine alone is made up from a dozen pieces, with the exhaust system adding another four. By the time you’ve added the plumbing and radiator equipment you’re over twenty pieces. Even with all this detail there is still room for additions, and the purists will want to add spark plug wires and such. Molded into the body are lots of bits and pieces as well and there are also decals to help add that extra touch here.The suspension is just as well detailed as the engine is, with the rear axle getting a pair of detailed wheel assemblies including disc brakes. Shocks and springs are molded separately, as is the sway bar. An exhaust shield finishes off the rear assembly. The front suspension is simpler, with most of it molded as one piece. The springs are separate, as are the disc brakes, and there is some front suspension detail included in the chassis molding. The wheels are split into halves, with the outer section in chrome. A nice set of Goodyear Eagle tires gives the car its grip.The interior is made up of a separate dashboard (complete with a two-piece steering wheel & column), a one-piece tub with separate sidewall panels, a rear seat incorporating the center console and receiving a separate shifter, and two front bucket seats, split into front and back halves. The pedals are also separate and include the master cylinder on the back end. The clear windscreen assembly takes care of both the front and rear windows and also has interior roof details such as the visors.The final touches on this kit include a separate front valance with separate headlight reflectors and clear lenses for the headlights, turn signals and fog lights; a rear spoiler; side mirrors with separate chromed mirrors; and tail lights provided in transparent red and clear. The rear bumper is also separate, as is the hood.The decals are well printed and provide just about everything you could possibly want for this Camaro model. In addition to the interior details such as the speedometer and climate controls you get the custom striping, SS logos, trim lights and a large decal for the roof panels. The decals are in excellent register and should go down without too much work.ConclusionIf you can’t afford the real 35th Anniversary Camaro, this model is an inexpensive option to get a very well detailed replica.
