How To Build And Modify Resin Model Aircraft Kits

By Michael Benolkin

By Richard Marmo
Specialty Press, ©2002
ISBN 1-58007-048-5
132 pages

I was wandering through my favorite local hobby establishment recently and spied this book on the shelf. Much to my surprise, the author is none other than our own Richard Marmo who pens our Scaleworld column each month. What caught my attention, however, was the subject - this is solid primer on working with resin detail parts as well as full resin kits in all scales. Much like Richard's columns, he walks the reader through several projects and deals with issues ranging from subject research to essential tools and techniques. I bought the book and have been enjoying various tid-bits of knowledge for my own benefit. Here's a rundown of the Table of Contents:

Preface - RTV and Resin

Chapter 1 - Selecting Your Subject

Chapter 2 - Tools

Chapter 3 - Airbrushes

Chapter 4 - Scale Jumping & Model Math

Chapter 5 - Glues & Paints

Chapter 6 - Building a Complete Resin Kit

Chapter 7 - Building a Complete Resin Kit, Part II

Chapter 8 - Conversions

Chapter 9 - Details

Chapter 10 - Dioramas & Vignettes

Chapter 11 - Resin & Bare Metal

Chapter 12 - Display Methods

Chapter 13 - References

Appendix - Selected Sources

While this book is aimed at the modeler who is looking to improve his/her skills, there is a wealth of information here for all modelers. Chapter 4 is a perfect example to help modelers deal with converting dimensions or drawings in one scale into the scale that they wish to apply the information.

This book is highly recommended! Available direct from Specialty Press either at theirwebsite or by calling 800-895-4585 . There is a $4.95 shipping & handling fee added to every order.
