TRAKZ WIPER MASKS

by John Prigent

I've been suggesting for awhile now to Eduard that some generic wiper masks would be a good idea. Well, Trakz has beaten them to it, and gone one better with a selection of masks tailored to specific vehicles. They're nicely done in vinyl, apparently laser-cut, and tacky enough that at least one re-use should be possible. Each vehicle gets at least one pair of masks for the left and right-hand wipers, and several get two to cater for modellers who like to build multiples of the same subject in different versions.

Set TX0028 is WWII U.S. Vehicle Wiper Masks and provides five pairs for Jeeps, no fewer than five for DUKWs, one for the Dodge WC63 and two for the Dodge WC51, one for Patton's Command Car, four for the GMC 2 1/2 ton truck, two for the GMC Water Tank truck, two for the Dodge ambulance, and two for the Dragon Wagon. All these plus two British vehicles - two sets for the Quad gun tractor and one for the Bedford truck!

Set TX0029 is WWII German Vehicle Wiper Masks #1 and gives two sets for the Famo halftrack, one for the Krupp Protze, two single masks for the Type 166 Schwimmwagen with its single wiper, two sets for the Type 82 Kubelwagen, one for the Opel Blitz and one for the Opel Maultier, one set each for the SdKfz 7 and SdKfz 11 halftracks, one for the Demag D7 halftrack, three for the Steyer 1500A car and four for the Steyer 1500A/01 command car.

To be honest I'm not sure why there are so many for some subjects that few modellers will want to build in multiples (four Steyers and five DUKWs but only one D7?) but as you can see there's a good spread here. All the subjects are available as plastic kits, and some of these masks should be usable on resin truck and car models too. I await with great interest the contents of the next set of German masks. Highly recommended!
