While
cruising the vendor tables at a local contest, I was pleasantly surprised
to see a sheet of civil decals for the Messerschmitt Bf 108 Taifun by
Techmod. Being an avid between the wars civil aircraft modeler, I wasted
no time in picking one up. Available in both 1/48 and 1/72, this release
provides decals for four aircraft and has something for everyone.
The first option presented on this sheet is a very fetching overall
RLM 24 dark blue machine. Registered D-IBMY and carrying the race number
18, this machine was a contestant in the International Circuit of the
Oases taking place in Egypt in February of 1937. The swastikas, provided
as two-piece decals, are carried on the tail in the familiar red banner,
and Messerschmitt stencils and logos complete the markings.
The second option is an overall cream colored aircraft operated by the
Central Staff of the Aviation League in Poland in the post war years.
A red spinner adds a dash of color and various stencils for this machine
are also provided.
Next
up is an overall aluminum machine tested by the Japanese Army aviation
Experimental Center. Hinomaru are carried on the tops and bottoms of the
wings and on both sides of the rudder and the number 58 is on the fuselage
sides.
The last option is for another Japanese aircraft, this one serving with
Manchuka Airlines in 1936-37. This overall aluminum aircraft, registered
J-BACC, is festooned with logos and symbols, including one for the 1936
Olympic games. As with the others, all stencils and logos are provided
on the sheet to complete this option.
The decals themselves are printed well and are in perfect register,
with almost invisible carrier film and, as mentioned before, all four
aircraft can be built from this sheet.

With the Eduard release in 1/48 and the venerable Heller kit available
in 1/72, this is a sheet for just about everyone.
