Mirage 1/72 T-26M Light Tank

By Michael Benolkin

Background

The Soviet T-26 was one of the most prolific vehicles developed by the Soviets before WW2. In the case of the T-26LH/45, the turret was modified in 1933 to facilitate installation of a larger main gun, in this case a 45mm.

The Kit

Believe it or not, this kit comes on five parts trees molded in light gray styrene and one set of nicely molded tracks. While most of the parts trees are common for all of the releases, representing the hull, wheels and suspension, the remaining tree(s) cover the unique variations in each of these vehicles.

Considering that this is a small vehicle, especially in 1/72 scale, I am amazed at the number of parts that are pro vided to build up this vehicle. The instructions are well-illustrated to clearly step through the assembly process. While there are a large number of parts that bring this kit together, assembly appears to be straightforward and should appeal to the intermediate and advanced modelers who like to work with the extra details.

Markings are provided for four examples:

  • T-26 in Madrid 1938 of the Spanish National Forces

  • T-26 used in Spanish Morocco after the Spanish Civil War

  • T-26 captured by the Germans and assigned to the 3rd SS Panzer Division

  • T-26 of the Red Army, Winter War 1939-1940

Conclusions

This is a nice-looking model that will add a unique subject to your shelf. If you like 1/72 scale armor, you'll love this kit. I can recommend this kit to anyone with basic modeling skills and the patience to work with small parts.

My sincere thanks to Squadron Mail Order for this review sample!
