Allied-Axis: The Photo Journal of The Second World War
Issue no. 12
Ampersand Publishing
MSRP: $15.95

As anyone who has read my past reviews of this book series knows, I really look forward to each issue. They are jam packed with very clear, black and white, wartime photos of tanks and soft-skined vehicles.

Ampersand's format for these books is 11" x 8 .5" and they are usually about a 1/2" thick.

This new issue holds 96 pages. There are 131 black and white war-time photos, most of which are full page shots. These books are virtual photo albums with short captions under each picture. Not real wordy books, but just great to get details of certain vehicles from.

The chapters in this new issue are on:

  • The Sturmtiger

There are many interior shots, that I have never seen in print elsewhere, and also some walk-around type shots of an example in a museum.

  • GMC Dump Trucks

With some really nice shots of some military type steam shovels too.

  • The M-10 and M-36 tank destroyers

This has come at a very opportune time for me, as I just received an Academy M-10 kit from Mike Benolkin, who reviewed the kit in a past issue. This article will come in darn handy - thanks Mike.

  • U.S. M3 scout car

This chapter will really help with the old Italeri kit of this vehicle.

The final chapter is on the Krupp Boxer light truck.

These books are invaluable references for the armor modeler and military historians alike.

Very highly recommended.
