The Jagdwaffe series continues with this latest title, returning to the battle over North Africa and Tunisia (last covered in Jagdwaffe Volume 3, Section 3). This book effectively finishes out the North African campaign, ending with the pull-out of German forces in 1943. For those of you who are familiar with the Jagdwaffe series, this one is no different. For those who are new to the series, here's a short breakdown.

The book is set up chronologically, with this title starting in July 1942 and continuing to May of 1943. Once into the main sections, subtitles break up the text with different operations, providing detailed information on various battles, squadron movements, and reinforcements. Interspersed throughout the main text are sidebars and mini-histories, such as the 6+-page spread on Hans-Joachim Marseille.

Building on the text are hundreds of quality photos, including a handful in original color. Some of these photos have been seen before in other publications, but others are new, and the captions are just as useful as the photos themselves. In addition to the great selection of photos, there are several quality color profile illustrations by noted artist Tom Tullis, done to his usual high standard. For the modeler, these profiles will really get the interest going on Bf 109s and Fw 190s.

For those who have all of the Jagdwaffe series, this will be a nice addition to the growing collection. For those who are new to the series, pick this one up and start adding the rest. This is a set that is well-worth having.

The Jagdwaffe series are available from Specialty Press. Each order has a $4.95 shipping and handling fee, so it is very cost effective to pick up two or three of these at a time.
