Bob's Buckles
1/48 & 1/72 Turnbuckles
One of the
recurring themes on the WWI list is how to replicate turnbuckles for the
rigging on biplanes. One answer is to place a blob of paint or glue and
let that serve as a reasonable facsimile. Bob Booth has come up with another
answer. His solution is to produce fine wire eyelets that serve as anchors
to allow one to tie fishing line to them.
The idea is to drill a small hole where the wire terminates, and then
affix the eyelet to the wing/etc. Fishing line .006 for 1/72 and
.008 for 1/48 is then attached to the eyelet using the drawings
below as a guide. The number of turns determines the size of the buckle.
Bob recommends that the line be wetted prior to pulling taut and the loose
end should be trimmed with a sharp exacto blade.
Check out
Bob's website for further
information as well as photos of the turnnbuckles in use. In the meantime,
here is one shot from his site showing them in place.
Thanks to Bob Booth for
the review samples.
