In October 2003, AeroMexico began receiving Boeing 737-700s with blended winglets. The aircraft were delivered in AeroMexico’s sharp-looking bare metal paint scheme. DRAW Decal recently released a decal representing these aircraft.
This decal is intended for a converted 1/144 Revell-Germany B737-800 kit or 1/200 push-fit display models. The instruction sheet provides a full color left side profile of the aircraft. The fuselage is bare metal, with Boeing gray for the wings, wing-body fairing, horizontal stabilizers, and radome. The modeler needs to paint the vertical tail, engine nacelles, and large fuselage stripe dark blue. All other markings and windows are included on the decal sheet. As with all newer DRAW Decal releases, the titles, windows, and door outlines are laid out on the decal sheet so as to be used as one complete piece, ensuring proper window, door, and title spacing. (Older DRAW Decal sheets are being re-designed to include this handy layout feature) These and all other ALPS-type decals are printed on one continuous layer of clear carrier film, and thus, each decal element MUST be cut individually from the sheet prior to soaking in water. Extra care is required when using these decals, as they are also thinner than most silkscreen printed decals.
The print quality of these decals is outstanding. The white Aztec head logos for the tail have been printed in three layers of white to ensure the decal is opaque when applied over the dark blue. The rendering of the detail and stencil items must be seen to be believed. Though you can’t read it in 1/144 , the main door stencils even include both the English AND Spanish placards! Also included are overwing escape paths, SkyTeam Alliance logos, logos for the insides of the winglets, and a large ADF antenna for the top of the fuselage. Plenty of extra registration letters and numbers are provided to model any aircraft in the fleet. DRAW Decal even provides a listing of the AeroMexico 737-700 fleet registrations on the DRAW Decal website. The website also has downloadable instructions in .pdf format for converting the Revell kit into a –700.
A great decal like this is the perfect motivation for tackling an airliner kit conversion. Review sample courtesy of DRAW Decal. Be sure to visit the DRAW Decal website (www.drawdecal.com) to see the entire line of terrific decals.
