Zvezda's 1/35 Soviet Sniper Team (WW II) Figure Set #3597

By Kent Kirkpatrick

Soviet Sniper Team (World War II)

The excellent box art shows four figures in different poses plus a decoy torso as well as a good paint reference. The back side of the boxart shows actual build figures which gives you a good reference when building them yourself. Two have helmets and two wear cloth covers (field cap). Field gear includes appropriate ammunition pouches, food pouches, binoculars, field packs, canteens and bayonets. One sniper is lying down, two are crouching and one is standing. One of them is female! The side of the box includes a Model Master paint reference if you prefer enamels over oil paints. The single sprue of olive drab styrene has some minor flash but that should be not problem to remove with a sharp Xacto blade. The overall detail on the arms, legs and torso are nicely done down to the creases on the clothing and belts. The faces are somewhat generic lacking an expression but the general level of detail is good. One figure has some sort of fine hessian tape-like camo surface on it. All four Mosin sniper rifles (with sniper scopes) and the PPSH-41 submachine gun are nicely molded but need the slings added with lead foil or some tape. Also included in this set of figures is a decal, translated as 'Attention: Soviet Sniper Team', for the sign post.

Conclusion

Zvezda's figure set is not quite on par some other injection molded or resin figures but are adequate for the money. Overall, they are quite acceptable for the modeler. These are unique figure subjects with a nice assortment of equipment and realistic poses. I recommend this set of figures. I would like to thank Zvezda for the review set.
