Agama
Agama specializes in modeling paint and finishing accessories. They
offer three types of paints enamels, acrylics and alcohol based
colors in multiple shades. Agama also has a range of other modeling tools,
putty and glues.
Metallic Paste
This
is a finely ground metallic paste in a viscous carrier. It is not a dry
powder. I sampled some silver on a test surface and it is very easy to
apply. I used a cosmetic applicator to apply the paste. It went on with
little effort and cover evenly. After it dries it can be polish to a metallic
finish. Agama also has other metal pigments such as Steel, Copper, Brass,
Bronze, Aluminum, Gun Metal, Gold and others.
Decal Media Set
This
is a three-bottle set for applying decals. Adhesol is a surface preparation
solution used prior to decal application. Once the decal has been applied
use Tensol as a softening agent which draws the decal to irregular surfaces.
If Tensol does not have an affect the use Hypersol which is a stronger
version of Tensol.
Acrylic Paint / Thinner and Patinator
Agama
offers enamel (14ml), acrylic (16ml) and alcohol-based (10ml) paints in
hundreds of shades. My sample of acrylic paints sprayed very evenly using
my airbrush. I used a 50/50 mix of thinner to paint. It dries very fast
but cleans up really easy with window cleaner containing ammonia. I recommend
the use of adequate ventilation when spraying the acrylic paints. Patinator
is a finely ground weathering powder that comes in 10ml bottles. Patinator
can be applied either wet or dry. Currently, there are eight shades including
white, black, ash gray, sand, mud, clay, rust and khaki. Agama plans to
add other shades in the future. I sampled mine applying it dry and wet
(alcohol) with nice results. Patinator is easy to apply but, as with most
chalk powders, it takes a little work with alcohol to remove if needed.
Conclusion
Agama introduces themselves to modelers here with some fine finishing
products. For the last few years European modelers have enjoyed their
products and now they are planning to explore markets outside of Europe. This
Czech Republic company has a lot to offer the modeler. I highly recommend
them. I would like to thank Agama
for the review samples.
Addendum
Matt Bittner here. I too received a shipment from Agama. Included were
three paints, thinner, three Patinators, the decal media set and the metallic
paste. While I have yet to use any of it, it all looks great. I do plan
on continuing my acrylics articles soon, and I will be taking a close
look at these paints. Add my thanks to Agama for the review samples.
