Generic
national marking decals are a very useful thing to have, as in many cases
the colors between model manufacturers can vary. This is particularly
true with the case of British roundels, where the red centers have been
printed from everything from a bright red to a dull brown. Fantasy Printshop
has come to the rescue with a series of decal sheets in both 1/72 and
1/48, covering a wide range of RAF roundel styles. The quality of printing
is superb, with excellent density and registration. There is some confusion
with how the sheets are named, though. Rather than using the standard
Type A, B, C, etc., these sheets are listed as Type 1, 11, and 111. The
list below shows the correct identification along with the sheet name,
to help determine what is what.
FP869 (1/72) & FP863 (1/48): RAF Roundels Type 1 (Type B)
FP870 (1/72) & FP864 (1/48): RAF Roundels Type 1A (Type C)
FP871 (1/72) & FP865 (1/48): RAF Roundels Type 11 (Type C)
FP872 (1/72) & FP866 (1/48): RAF Roundels Type 111 (Type C1)
FP873 (1/72) & FP867 (1/48): RAF Roundels Type A (Type A)
FP874 (1/72) & FP868 (1/48): RAF Roundels Type A1 (Type A1)
FP876 (1/72) & FP875 (1/48): RAF Roundels 1947 (Type D)
FP878 (1/72) & FP877 (1/48): RAF Fin Flashes 24” & 18”
Widths (All Styles)
Out of these sheets, FP871, FP872, FP873, FP874, FP866, FP867, and FP868
all have the center dot printed separately, leaving it up to the modeler
to get the alignment right. If you build RAF subjects, these will be essential
material for your decal bin. My thanks to Fantasy
Printshop for the review samples.
