The latest issue of Windsock marks the 90th anniversary of the demise
of the Red Baron, who was shot down in April 1918. To mark that, this
issue provides some excellent color artwork by Ronny Bar showing a couple
different iterations of Richthofen’s less famous Fokker Dr. I, 127/17.
In addition, there are a few photos along with some notes by Greg VanWyngarden,
providing a nice reference collection for this earlier Dr. I of Richthofen.
Not all of the issue is given to the Rittmeister, though, and the rest
of the issue is packed with a wide variety of material. George Haddow
continues his ongoing series on Austro-Hungarian Naval Aeroplanes with
coverage on the Lohner Type S. This handy reference includes a trio of
color profiles done by Bob Pearson, as well as several photos and scale
drawings. Les Rogers also continues his series on RE8 Squadrons, with
Part 4 covering No. 21, No. 30, and No. 34 Squadrons. A trio of color
profiles on the rear cover illustrate those three units as well. Also
included in this issue are scale drawings of the Wight ‘Converted’
Seaplane, a description of the Aeroclub biplane assembly jig, Harry Woodman’s
notes on the Grigorovich M.5, and the usual collection of kits and books
reviewed.
