Initiated in 1983, the F-15 Multistage Improvement Program (MSIP) ensured that the aircraft would regularly receive the latest mods as they were introduced. F-15Js, which are produced under license in Japan, received their first upgrades in 1987. The most notable additions included an upgraded central computer, more powerful engines and a J/APO-1 countermeasure set. Hasegawa has faithfully recreated the "Low Visibility CAG" version of the F-4S Phantom II in 1/72 scale! The final F-4S Phantom II ever launched from a U.S. Navy aircraft carrier belonged to the VF-151 "Vigilantes" fighter squadron. This last launch took place aboard the U.S.S. Midway on March 25, 1986. The squadron soon replaced their aging fleet of Phantom IIs with the cutting-edge F/A-18 Hornet, concluding an era which few aircraft ever surpassed. For his remarkable combat service, Schönert was honored with the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross with Oak Leaves in 1944.
