Miniwing 1/144 Avia B-35

By Matt Bittner

miniwing_avia-parts.jpg

Probably the easiest to assemble kit in the latest batch, the Avia B-35 comes with only 14 resin parts and two vac canopies, the second being an extra.  Markings are for only one machine, “white S 3” finished in a three-color camo over light gray.

This time the kit comes with no pieces for the cockpit – aside from decals for the seat back (which will be added to the back of the cockpit “hole”) and instrument panel –  with only what looks like a headrest to fit underneath the canopy.  Unless you’re opening up the canopy, I doubt you’ll be able to see much as it is.  The one-piece wing is then added, as miniwing_avia-decals.jpg

is each horizontal tail.  The rest of the pieces – spatted landing gear, half-wheels, antenna and tail wheel – could probably be added prior to painting (although, come to think of it, you might want to hold off on the tail wheel and antenna mast until after painting).  The last things to add during construction – after final painting – are the prop blades to the spinner, that assembly to the fuselage and the canopy.

Conclusion

If you’re looking for your first resin kit, build in 1/144 and don’t mind something not very common, then the Miniwing Avia B-35 is for you.  14 pieces means a quick build and the level of detail present is perfect for the scale.  In fact, I would even venture to say the Miniwing B-35 is a great way to beat AMS!

Thanks to Miniwing for the review sample.
