Overview Diorama accessories can come in many shapes and forms, but one that has always been somewhat lacking has been ground cover and plants of various sorts. These, for some reason, have always been left to the minds and creativity of modelers. Eduard has decided to help that along by employing their prepainted photoetch technology. This is their latest piece. The Set Grapes! Yes, here we have photoetched grapevines. This rather unique set provides seven individual grapevines, complete with bunches of grapes and plenty of grape leaves. Even more interesting is that this isn't a set that you can use right out of the bag, even though they look complete. In fact, a closer look at the grape bunches shows that these are designed to be folded up, providing a more realistic grape bunch that has layers of grapes stacked up.
For the grape leaves, the instructions provide a very interesting technique for changing their appearance as well. By rolling a steel ball on a leaf over a soft surface like an eraser, you can get gentle curves to the leaves and have each one drape differently than the next. That, coupled with some careful bending of the vine itself, and you will end up with a set of vines that are completely different from one another, with minimal effort. Conclusion This is really a great adaptation of a well-known process, and it is great to see Eduard expanding their line with such creative subjects as these. I can't wait to see what they will do next. Personally, I'd like to see them come out with some similar stuff in 1/72, perhaps even a spruce or fir tree. My thanks to Eduard for the review sample. |
