Brengun 1/72 British Walkboard
By Matt Bittner
One aspect I like about Brengun is their tendency to release items that will help with actually displaying models. For example, they have released Soviet wheel-chocks; Luftwaffe wheel chocks; jet aircraft intake guards; ladders; tables and chairs; tools; and buckets, amongst other things. This time Brengun has released in 1/72 a set of British Walkboards, which were used to "walk" safely on top of British WW2 aircraft wings, and which appear to have been made of wood.I decided to actually paint these and display them on my Spitfire models. After I sanded them with 600 grit sandpaper (to help the paint adhere) I sprayed Vallejo Air Wood on them. After drying, I then went over them with a dry-brush application of Van Dyke Brown oil color. Since oil takes a while to dry, I had to wait a few days before I could spray some Xtracrylix flat over the finished walkboards. After cutting them from the photoetch fret, I put them on my Spitfires so you can see how they look.
These are great if you want to put your British aircraft in some sort of ground display. They're pretty flexible so should be able to conform to any wing surface. Just take your time, don't rush it, and you'll have walkboards on the wings of your models.
I want to thank Brengun for allowing me to review their walkboards.
