Eduard 1/72 Boeing B-17G Photoetch

By Matt Bittner

Eduard has provided us with three sets for the 1/72 Academy B-17G.

The first is in their Zoom line, which means not as much as with their "regular" sets.  Plus, most Zoom sets are also self-adhesive, a definite plus. This set, SS331, includes instrument panel and pieces, throttle quadrant, seat belts, more parts for the cockpit floor and control columns, and other interior pieces.

The next set, 73331, adds to the Zoom set (and all is also self-adhesive) with another fret for the interior.  Many more pieces for the interior (a lot) plus seats, doors, and all sorts of goodies.  Also included are perforated gun barrels for all the guns, sites, ammo belts and other pieces for the gun butts, as well as parts for the bomb sight and surrounding area.  Very comprehensive!  However, a lot of this will not be seen once the fuselage halves are closed.  Still, it all definitely adds a lot to the model.

The final set, 72495, is primarily for the exterior of the model.  Wheel hubs, hand-holds, pieces for the landing gear, the site for the rear gunner, radiator pieces for the wing leading edge, and finally, parts for the engine and cowl.  If you want to put that final touch on your Academy B-17G, then by all means pick up this set.

You can add a little with the Zoom set, or go all out and completely detail your B-17 with the "full" interior and exterior sets.  All in all quite a lot to bring an already decent model up to the higher level.

My thanks to Eduard for the review photoetch.
