Windsock Datafiles 48 This was originally published in 1994 and this has been updated in 2009 and again in 2010. This will be explained in further detail later. The drawings, to me, are the heart of these datafiles. The text leading up the drawings are well-written and interesting, and I read the DH.2 one through. The 1/48 drawings, however, left me gaping. You see, I built the Smer DH.2, an ex-Merit kit, I believe, back in 1994, without this kind of reference and I had to make educated guesses where my own research fell down. The model, in the end, was tolerable but barely. By today's standards, it wouldn't be. There are also a lot of very high quality photographs that I didn't even know existed! It's really quite a remarkable book that makes me want to built another DH.2. So many models, so little time. The appendices consist of specifications of the aircraft, numbers of airframes, things like that. It also has tables showing what kits have been available and that has been updated; the lists show kits from 1959-1993 and 1996-2010. Apparently there were no new kits for the DH.2 between 1993 and 1996? Again, this is a remarkable reference in a small package and it's indispensable for the modeler. Thanks to Albatros Publications for the review copy. |
