Following the monograph #307, Wydawnictwo examines the post-war development of Bulgaria's armor force. Like many eastern European nations, the Bulgarian tank corps was comprised of Soviet vehicles and surviving German types. Monograph #313 follows this publishers trusted format by presenting a mass of unique period photos and selected color plates.
I'm continually impressed with the great amount of photo archives that have opened in eastern Europe over the last 10-15 years. Militaria #313 takes full advantage of this and presents us with numerous photos of post-war Bulgarian Panthers, T-34s, Su-76s, Jagdpanzers, artillery, and soft skins vehicles on parade, in field maneuvers, and typical maintenance scenes. Few of these vehicles bore any distinguishing markings, save a handful of vehicle numerals. Nearly all were finished in a Soviet-style dark green. The nine color profiles reflect the limited marking options seen on post-war Bulgarian vehicles.
While most of the vehicles covered in monograph #313 lack the photogenic qualities of their Great War counterparts, this title, nonetheless, provides an intriguing look into the rarely seen Bulgarian armor corps during the early days of the Cold War. Modelers will appreciate the diorama inspiration, while the military enthusiast will enjoy the rare glimpse into this seldom documented subject. Hopefully, Wydawnictwo will continue their study of post-war, pre-Warsaw pact armor.
