Lavochkin's penultimate piston fighter, the La-9, arrived too late for service in the Great Patriotic War, but did see service with the Warsaw Pact and combat within the Chinese and North Korean air forces. Poland's Wydawnictwo presents the type in their latest aircraft monograph and draws some light on this enigmatic fighter.

Wydawnictwo presents the La-9 in their usual, concise format, with a balanced mix of period photos, technical drawings and quality color plates. Of note, is an indifferent but rare photo of a North Korean machine surrounded by pilots. A comprehensive set of 48th scale drawings and fifteen color profiles will also benefit the modeler. Details on the two-place trainer type are also included.

In sum, Wydawnictwo Militaria has found a niche offering high quality monographs on aircraft that, generally, receive little press in Western publications. This title is no exception; we just need a few more kit offerings of this type.
