Brengun 1/144 MXY7 Ohka Model 11
By Matt Bittner
The Yokosuka MXY7 Ohka was purposely built to be a human powered, kamikaze device used against United States' ships during the latter parts of World War 2. It's entire purpose was to be piloted into ships in hopes of blowing them up in the sea. The flying bomb was usually mounted under the wings of a Mitsubishi "Betty" from which it was launched.
This 1/144 kit from Brengun fills a gap in this scale. I'm unaware of any other 1/144 Ohka so this could be the first in this scale. Construction won't be difficult; the most difficult part will be folding the photoetch seat and installing it into the cockpit, along with the other photoetch pieces. Resin takes care of the fuselage, wings and tail surfaces. The kit comes with two vacuum-formed canopies just in case something happens to the first.
Since the Ohkas were finished overall in light gray, finishing the kit should not take too long and you could have a 1/144 Ohka finished in a weekend. The second most difficult part of construction will be cutting out the vac canopy. Decals are for two Ohkas and consist of just the airframe numbers along with a flower as a one-piece decal.
If you want to mount this to the underside of a 1/144 Betty you'll need to create your own pylon. This is a really nice kit and will look great however you decide to display it.
We definitely again thank Brengun for sending this Ohka in for review.
