Brengun 1/72 Spitfire Mk.IX Floatplane
By Matt Bittner
It has been some time since Brengun released their 1/72 Spitfire Mk.Vb Floatplane so it's not surprising they have released this Spitfire Mk.IX Floatplane. Just like their Mk.Vb release, this one is also primarily based on the AZ Model 1/72 Spitfire Mk.IX kit, adding floats and other pieces of their own molding.
I've provided a First Look on the AZ Model Mk.IX before, so refer to that article to see how that kit looks. The extra sprues Brengun created and supply are the same ones that comes with the Mk.Vb kit which consists of two floats (four pieces total) and the other extra sprue that consists of two rudder/fin combinations, four-bladed prop and hub; however, the only item used from this sprue will be the one-piece rudder/fin, relegating the other parts to the spares bin.
Decals are for the single Mk.IX floatplane prototype and appear to be in register.
If you want to complete your Spitfire collection then you'll need both Spitfire floatplanes and will do no wrong by picking up this kit from Brengun. Many thanks are given to Brengun for supplying this review sample.
