Shelf Oddity 1/144 Miniwing Attacker Series Photoetch Set
By Matt Bittner
Shelf Oddity caters not just to more "mainstream" models but also those considered "not" mainstream. Thankfully they've released this photoetch set for the Miniwing 1/144 Attacker series of kits, both the F.1 fighter and FB.2 fighter-bomber. There is some surgery required, mainly providing a large "cut-out" on the upper fuselage to provide depth for the photoetch dorsal bleed doors. In addition, in order to install the "locking hook" into the starboard landing gear well you'll need to remove some of the resin in that area. Finally, in order to best use the photoetch main landing gear doors you'll need to either remove the doors that are molded onto the kit landing gear, or scratch build your own set of new landing gear. But once all that is accomplished the rest of the photoetch pieces are just put into place.
In addition to the above the set also includes aileron actuators, inlet boundary layer vents both upper and lower, aerial antennas (which include a small nib on each photoetch piece that is inserted into a hole drilled into the model – a really nice touch), arrestor hook, undercarriage doors for the main gear and the tail wheel, oleo scissors, boundary layer splitter plates for the inlets, and other bumps and extrusions for the model.
This is a great set to add extra detail to the already fine Miniwing 1/144 Attacker. Definitely recommended.
My thanks to Shelf Oddity for the review sample. Keep in mind Shelf Oddity sets do not come with instructions, instead they are downloaded from their site.
