Eduard 1/72 Fern Leaves
By Chris Banyai-Riepl
Overview
Eduard is well known for producing quality photoetch updates for model kits, but every now and then they release something that falls outside that upgrade realm. One of their more recent forays has been in creating photoetch for diorama scenes, and now we're starting to see these scaled down to 1/72. This is one of their first sets, providing a nice selection of fern fronds.
The Set
This fern leaf photoetch set (73-438) is a pre-painted set that provides a handful of fern leaves in several formats. There are three pieces that feature three fern fronds connected, and fourteen individual fronds. There are no instructions, but none are really needed. Simply cut the pieces off the fret and start bending and rolling them to get a realistic look. The back side is a slightly different shade than the front side, so you can get a different look to these by twisting them up, as well.
Conclusion
For those wanting an easy addition to a ground base that will add some color, this is a great addition. It's simple to work, colorful, and has enough variation to provide a very realistic jungle setting, or even a hanging fern from a pot. My thanks to Eduard for the review sample.
