Eduard 1/72 Sunflowers
By Chris Banyai-Riepl
Overview
Eduard is well known for producing quality photoetch updates for model kits, but every now and then they release something that falls outside that upgrade realm. One of their more recent forays has been in creating photoetch for diorama scenes, and now we're starting to see these scaled down to 1/72. This is one of their first sets, providing sunflowers.
The Set
This sunflower photoetch set (73-439) is a pre-painted set that provides a handful of sunflower stalks. A total of 22 are provided, and unlike the larger 1/35 set, these require no assembly. That said, there will be quite a bit of bending, and in this case the bending will need to be gentle to more accurately replicate the drooping of a plant. Each stalk has eight leaves in addition to the sunflower itself, and with some careful bending and rolling, each stalk will have a different look to it.
Conclusion
For those wanting an easy addition to a ground base that will add some color, this is a great addition. It's simple to work, colorful, and has enough variation to provide a very realistic sunflower field. My thanks to Eduard for the review sample.
