AK Interactive Aircraft Landing Gear Weathering Set
By Chris Banyai-Riepl
Overview
A relatively new name when it comes to modeling paints, AK Interactive has made quite an impressive entry into this area of scale modeling. Their range of products covers everything from basic colors to advanced weathering techniques, and is often bundled into related subjects. This most recent set takes a stab at aircraft finishing with a focus on landing gear weathering.
The Paints
This set comes with three different bottles of paint: Landing Gear Wash, Landing Gear Dust, and Wash for Shafts and Bearings. These are enamel paints that are designed for specific effects. For example, the landing gear wash and the wash for shafts and bearings, on first look, seem to be the same thing. But there are subtle color differences that, when used, give a very different look and feel to the final product. Both of these colors are a dark brown/black color, while the landing gear dust is a muted yellowish tan.
All three colors are quite thin, ready for use straight out of the bottle. These could be used as a brushed-on wash, or even airbrushed for a different effect. Should they need to be thinned even further, it is recommended that you use the AK White Spirit to thin them.
Conclusion
For those who haven't used any of the AK Interactive paints, these are quite good paints to have. Developed by a talented modeler, they are designed to work well for scale models, and these will be an easy way to enhance your plane's landing gear.
