Armory 1/72 Douglas P-70B-1/B-2 Conversion
By Matt Bittner
The Douglas P-70 was created as an interim measure until the P-61 was operational. While the P-70A saw service in the Pacific the P-70B-1 and P-70B-2 did not, instead they were used in the U.S. to train crews on nightfighting tactics.
The Armory 1/72 P-70B-1/B-2 conversion is not that difficult. It consists of a replacement, resin nose, two forward-fuselage side "gun packs" and the guns for those packs, and the "bulb" (for lack of a better term) for the radar antennas that existed on both sides of the forward fuselage, under the windscreen. The only "work" you need to accomplish is providing the wire for the actual "arms" of the antenna, sticking them through the "bulbs" once cut to their proper length. The rest of construction is super-simple. Just add the resin nose to the front of the MPM kit (instead of the kit's nose), glue the gun barrels to the "gun packs", add the "gun packs" to the side of each fuselage half and then glue the assembled radar antenna to each fuselage half as well.
However, you'll need to find your own decals for P-70B-1/B-2s because this conversion does not contain any.
A big "thank you" to Armory for sending this conversion in for review.
