Brengun 1/144 F-86F 335th FIS Decals
By Matt Bittner
Unfortunately there hasn't been a lot of aftermarket for the Trumpeter 1/144 F-86F, which is actually a shame because it is a decent kit, and one considered – so far – the best in this scale. Thankfully that just recently changed with the release of these decals from Brengun. They supply six different F-86Fs from the 335th FIS:
- F-86F, July 1953, Capt Ralph Parr, #112959
- F-86F, July 1953, Capt Lonnie Moore, #112972
- F-86F, July 1953, Maj Vermont Garrison, #112953
- F-86F, July 1953, 1Lt Richar Keener, #23368
- F-86F, July 1953, Col James Johnson, #112941
- F-86F, July 1953, 1Lt John Tabor, #24773
The decals appear to be nicely printed and in register. All aircraft are natural metal with yellow stripes.
Unfortunately the instructions aren't very well done, consisting of just mainly port-side drawings of the aircraft showing only decal placement. One of the aircraft covered has a starboard side drawing, but there are no other sides of the aircraft shown, nor is there any color on the instruction sheet.
I would recommend tracking down references for these machines before you start using the decals. However, once you do have references then finishing the Trumpeter kit using the Brengun decals will make the model look very unique.
My thanks to Brengun for supplying these decals to review.
