Brengun 1/72 DH-82a Tiger Moth for Airfix 1/72 Tiger Moth
By Chris Banyai-Riepl
Overview
The Airfix 1/72 DH-82 Tiger Moth is a very welcome release, being accurate, well detailed, easy to build, and inexpensive. There's still plenty of room for improvement, though, and it's no surprise that aftermarket companies have tackled the type. Brengun has stepped into the fray with a new photoetch set for this nice kit.
The Set
Photoetch does wonders to improving interiors, and it is no surprise that the majority of this set is aimed at that area of the kit. Easy additions are seatbelts for the seats, which are almost a given these days in photoetch sets. There are also some additional seat details such as backrests and support structure provided. On the inside, there are two instrument panels, another given these days. There are other internal details, and these are further highlighted by the inclusion of some thin fold-down sides for each cockpit, something that is much more to scale than the kit parts.
Outside of the interior, there are brackets for the wings and fuselage side details around the cowling. On the underside there are several additional details that are either absent in the kit or just too thick to be realistic. The wheels get hub detailing as well, and the wing struts have the addition of instrumentation and probes that will greatly improve the look of those areas.
Conclusion
This is a nice little update set to tweak the Airfix 1/72 Tiger Moth kit, and will go a long ways to making that a much more realistic finished model. My thanks to Brengun for the review sample.
