Eduard 1/48 Brassin Bf109F Big Sin Essential Set
By Jacob Russell
This is Eduard's Brassin Big Sin set for their Bf109F-2/4 kit. It combines 4 different Brassin sets into a single, useful package:
648 279 Bf109F cockpit
648 282 Bf109F wheels
648 292 Bf109F control surfaces
648 332 Bf109F pitot tubes
The cockpit has the late seat, unlike the Brassin cockpit I reviewed earlier. It consists of 93 parts, 21 of which are resin. 4 parts are molded in clear resin. There are also 71 photo-etched parts on 2 frets. One of these is pre-painted, and you also get a single acetate sheet containing 4 gun sight lenses.
The detail of the resin components is spectacular, especially that of the sidewalls and the floor. Bf109F cockpits were painted RLM 66. This was a fairly dark Grey I would add some Neutral Grey or white paint to the 66 so that excellent detail is easier to see.
The photo-etched pieces add more detail and finesse. The pre-painted fret includes upgrades like an instrument panel, seat harness, and some handles that attach to the bottom of the instrument panel. The "standard" PE fret includes the landing gear retraction wheels and chain, rudder pedals, canopy armor, canopy retention arm, storage access hatch, etc.
The Brassin wheels include masks for the main wheels and the tail wheel. The fabric effect on the control surfaces is well executed and you also get a pair of finely cast mass balances for the ailerons. The resin pitot tubes have a greater level of finesse than their injection molded kit counterparts.
Eduard's Friedrich is an accurate and well detailed kit right out of the box, in either the ProfiPACK or Weekend Edition form. You can certainly build a contest winning model with either kit, but if you desire an even higher level of detail it is great to have these Brassin Bf109F sets in a single box. I recommend this set and I would like to thank Eduard for the review sample.
