Eduard 1/48 Sea Fury FB.11 Landing Flaps
By Jacob Russell
This new photo-etch set is Eduard's pair of landing flaps for the new Airfix Sea Fury FB.11 kit. It consists of 60 parts on a single brass fret. It is a fairly complex task to use these flaps. You will have to remove the plastic flaps from the lower wing, and you will need some 8mm plastic rod to help recreate the flap superstructure. You might as well break out your Optivisor or magnifying tool of choice, and your preferred PE folding tool(s) as some of the parts are tiny.
I would recommend that you remove the smaller parts from the fret from within the safe confines of a plastic bag. In my experience the smaller the part, the more likely it is to disappear.
The quality of Eduard's brass is above reproach. There are very real scale thickness limitations with injection molding and resin can be very fragile, so Eduard's use of brass is the correct medium for the task.
Airfix's new Sea Fury kit supersedes earlier kits from Trumpeter (shallow cockpit, shape problems), Hobbycraft (simplified details, shape problems), War Eagle, and Falcon (both are nice kits, if you like vacuforms). It is accurate and well detailed. Eduard's photo-etch adds superior detail to the landing flaps. I recommend this photo-etch set and I would like to thank Eduard for the review sample.
