Eduard 1/48 Spitfire Mk.I Landing Flaps
By Jacob Russell
This new photo etch set is for Airfix's new Supermarine Spitfire Mk.I kit. It consists of 20 parts on a single fret. It includes a complete set of landing flaps. It also includes the flap actuating rods, and a template for cutting out the flap actuator doors so that the rods, which protude above the wing surface when the flaps are lowered, are in their correct location. You also get photo etch parts for the acuator door inner faces.
You will need your preferred magnification device, tweezers, a good PE folding tool, and patience to get the best results from these highly detailed parts. You also need to supply .3mm wire and .7mm rod, which Eduard highlights in their well illustrated instructions.
Airfix's new series of Supermarine Spitfires have been well received. They are accurate and well detailed. Their new Mk.I in particular has earned high praise. It supercedes Tamiya's venerable Mk.I as the best 1/48th scale early Spitfire kit on the market.
The Supermarine Spitfire's flaps were up when the plane was stationary, so look at this as an another opportunity to depict your Mk.I in the midst of its maintenance regimen, perhaps as part of a diorama...
I recommend this PE set and I would like to thank Eduard for providing the review sample.
