Eduard 1/48 Spitfire Mk.I exterior
By Jacob Russell
This new photo etch set is for Airfix's new Supermarine Spitfire Mk.I kit. It consists of 30 parts on a single fret. It's a small, yet comprehensive set. It includes brake lines, a supercharger intake cover, landing gear doors, oil cooler faces, etc. Additional upgrades include the wheel well roofs, radiator faces and aft flap, mass balance and aerial wire post, windscreen, and a base for the antenna mast.
Airfix's new series of Supermarine Spitfires-apart from their botched, retooled Mk.IX-have been well received. They are accurate and well detailed. Their new Mk.I in particular has earned high praise. It supercedes Tamiya's venerable Mk.I as the best 1/48th scale early Spitfire kit on the market.
This new PE set from Eduard adds useful detail in many critical areas of the plane. I especially like the base for the antenna mast. Most kits mold the base in halves on either half of the fuselage and it is easy to mess up this detail when you refine the fuselage seam. Now you don't have to worry about it.
I recommend this PE set and I would like to thank Eduard for providing the review sample.
