Eduard 1/72 Airfix Hurricane Mk.I Zoom Photoetch
By Matt Bittner
There are some instances that using Eduard photoetch sets you'll need to modify the kit parts' accordingly. This is definitely the case using this Zoom set (#SS501) for the Airfix 1/72 Hurricane Mk.I. You'll need to remove sidewall detail on both fuselage halves, along with the molded-in detail for the instrument panel and the rudder pedals. In all actuality, though, it might be easier to use a replacement rudder bar (in the form of plastic rod) instead of trying to cut the kit's rudder pedals from the bar. Once that is accomplished then you'll attach the photoetch rudder pedals to the bar, along with what appears to be an "adjustment-wheel" used for adjustment.
In addition to all the sidewall detail Eduard provides that replaces the kit's parts you also receive seat belts and shoulder harnesses for the pilot's seat. Along with all the interior detail Eduard provides they also include some exterior detail such as replacement "screens" for the under-fuselage radiator and brake lines for the main landing gear. There is also a pilot's step included.
There is enough detail on this Eduard photoetch fret to set your model apart from those finished out-of-the-box.
A definite "thanks" to Eduard for providing this set to review.
