Eduard 1/72 F4U-1A Corsair S.A.
By Jacob Russell
This set (item number 73515) is for Revell's new Corsair kit. It consists of 121 pieces on 2 photo-etch frets. 42 of these are self adhesive and most are pre-painted. This fret includes items like a new instrument panel, seat belts, sidewalls, consoles, throttle quadrant, rudder pedals, etc. Additional items include a new seat and seat mount. The second fret includes items like oleo scissors, trim tab actuators for the horizontal tail planes, an ignition harness, canopy handles, landing gear doors, and brake lines. You also get the carrier catapult hooks, rudder actuator, rear tailwheel doors, etc. Another nice upgrade is some replacement wheelwell detail.
I think that this is a useful set. Revell's new F4U-1 is a pretty good kit! It is well detailed and significantly cheaper than Tamiya's F4U. It does have problems: the propeller is undersized, the cowling flaps have incorrect gaps between them (like their P-47 kits) and the under wing bomb racks are incorrect for this variant, as are the decal options. But it is still a pretty good kit. It represents a viable alternative to the Academy and Tamiya Corsair kits, and this new Eduard will give it an overall higher detail level. I recommend this set and I would like to thank Eduard for providing the review sample.
