Eduard 1/72 MiG-21PFM Photoetch
By Chris Banyai-Riepl
Overview
The Eduard 1/72 MiG-21 is a nice kit out the box, but even with the best of kits there is always room for aftermarket improvement. While the kit includes some photoetch, there is quite a bit that could use more. This set enhances the kit with extra details.
The Photoetch
As the kit comes with quite a bit of nice detail out of the box, most of this set is focused on the smaller details that just can't be done in injection plastic. This includes wheel well and landing gear details and thinner replacement main gear doors. The underbelly gun pod also gets a much more realistic tip, while the exhaust has some inserts to give the kit part a more realistic appearance. Static wicks for the tailplanes and small antenna pieces are also included.
The Eduard MiG-21PFM kit comes with quite a range of weaponry, and this PE set adds quite a bit of detail for these pieces. For the pylons, there are edge pieces that provide detail should you not attach weapons. For the missiles, there are exhaust details and fin details that add a lot. The rocket pods get replacement rear sections, and the RATO bottles have new attachment pieces and fins, and the bombs get arming impellers for the back end.
Conclusion
If you're looking at taking your Eduard 1/72 MiG-21PFM kit to the next level, this is a great set to do that with. My thanks to Eduard for the review sample.
